With its low self-esteem and high urban blight, Hartford is the ultimate underdog city. Sad City Hartford documents the joys, sorrows and eccentricities of New England's Rising Star.

How about them tomatoes?

Saturday November 17th 10am-1pm inside the Knox Parks Greenhouse at 75 Laurel St.

Wouldn't you love to be able to do most of your Thanksgiving shopping at one place, all while supporting CT farmers and vendors? Well, Hartford's Farmers' Markets have been working hard to make that wish come true by organizing the 2nd Annual Hartford Harvest Farmers' Market!
Come to this fun and festive market where you'll find potatoes, apples, pumpkins, carrots, greens, eggs, a variety of cheeses, coffee, pies, cupcakes, gelato, beans, rice, and great craft items! A true "one stop shop" for your Thanksgiving dinner!

Paper Mania!

Anything look familiar about this argument?

Last weekend the XL Center hosted Paper Mania as the event returned to Hartford. We were disappointed to have missed the event the last time around. Not being the best publicized event to hit Hartford, we nearly missed it again this time, but got wind of it towards the end of the week. We visited early Saturday morning not knowing what to expect and hoping to find something cool for an apartment. We had no idea what we were getting into. Only a couple minutes after walking into Paper Mania we realized that it was much bigger in size and scope than we had imagined.

Hartford Art By A Hartford Artist

Footguard on parade

Sad City is always happy to support local artists. It's even more of a pleasure when that artist's work is a inspired by and incorporates Hartford. Recently we were introduced to Beth Pite, a local artist specializing in pastels often inspired by what she sees in our city. This Thursday, September 1, the Charter Oak Cultural Center (21 Charter Oak Drive) is hosting an opening, City Place, Beach Place, featuring her works and the works of Alan Bisbort. The opening runs from 5:30-8:30 Thursday evening. For those unable to attend the exhibit will run until September 23.

Support Heaven

You thought Hartford was already heaven? Not quite, but we're working on it. If you spend time in downtown on the weekends you'll know that the area is a popular place for skateboarders. While we have never even been able to figure out how to get those things to move forward while standing on them, we think it's a kewl idea to have a skate park in downtown. You can support the park and have a great time a January 27 Pasta Dinner and Bluegrass Concert to benefit the park for only $15. Details after the jump.
