Sad City Hartford Comic: The Reverse Flasher

We're pleased to present a new comic strip here on Sad City Hartford, The Ongoing Mundane Adventures of Martin Martinczk. The comic strip is a bout the boring happenings of an insurance claims manager living in Hartford. This week's episode is about a "reverse flasher." What's a reverse flasher? You'll just have read the comic to find out, won't you?

Future episodes may or may not appear sporadically. Enjoy! (The full comic is after the jump.)

Another Tri Color House

A few weeks ago we checked out the tri-color house on the corner of New Park Britain Ave and White Street. Today we visit another tri-color house, this one on Sisson Ave. While the house we visited before was yellow, orange, and green, this house is red, white, and blue. It's a nice looking and festive paint scheme. It could be patriotic modeled after the U.S. flag, but it could be modeled after the Puerto Rican flag. It also could modeled after the flags of France, Liberia, Chile, Cuba, Malaysia or one of a few other red, white, and blue flags. Anyway, enjoy tri-color house number two.

Hartford Rides

Fuel efficiency is totally overrated
Hartford isn't a car culture city like Los Angeles, but it is still a city where most resident rely primarily on their cars as the main source of transportation. People's attitudes towards their cars is always interesting. Some people insist in having cars they can't afford while others don't seem to care at all what they drive in. The vast majority of cars in the road are uninteresting and don't garner a second notice. We have a few that do.

The Tricolor House

We've long loved this tricolored house located at the corner of New Britain Ave across the street from Coyote Flaco. As know lovers of fluorescent colors, this house has is one of our favorites in Hartford. What would possess someone to paint their house three different bright colors? The Irish flag comes to mind but that's not exactly right. Our guess was always something more benign, most likely the owner had these three colors of paint and didn't want to buy more. We also were once told that the owners children were huge fans of a television show (Teletubbies?) that used these colors and painted the house this way to amuse the kids. Whichever it is, it's pretty awesome and we hope it stays this way.
