With its low self-esteem and high urban blight, Hartford is the ultimate underdog city. Sad City Hartford documents the joys, sorrows and eccentricities of New England's Rising Star.

Bikes, Art, & Hockey, Oh My!

If you're looking for something to do this Friday evening there are a few cool events happening downtown. The Tavern Downtown will be showing the CT Whale playoff game against Norfolk at 7:30. The Whale scored a surprising 3-2 overtime victory in game one over a heavily favored Norfolk squad who entered the playoffs not having lost a game in nearly three months.

The Whale are now building a streak of their own as they sit at 4-0 in the playoffs. The Whale will be back in Hartford with 7 pm games both Sunday and Monday night at the XL Center. Purchase tickets for playoff hockey here.

Today will also be the final day of the Whale store on Pratt Street and everything will be 40% off. Stop by the store early as it will be closing its doors for good at 5:30 PM today.

Pratt Street will also host the opening of the Hartford Bicycle Studio at Downtown Yoga and Cycled Energy on 57 Pratt at from 5-10 tonight. The Hartford Bicycle Studio hand paints bike frames so you can cruise around the town on a one of a kind piece of art. Artists will be offering custom bike painting services this months. Aruna Chocolates will be featuring their organic chocolates at the event.

ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!?!!?

Oh.

Ok, well then, if that's not enough right next door contemporary art exhibition ATOM Space will be hosting their first show As It Ever Was from 6-9. So you've got a few options.

If you're too confused with all these options your good friends at Sad City have come up with a Friday itinerary for you to follow so you don't have to think or make decisions, because let's be honest, who wants to do either?

4:30  Sneak out of work early. This shouldn't be hard, it's May and a Friday so your boss is already gone.

4:45 - 5:15 Grab a few drinks at your local and call a cab to take you to Pratt. 666-6666. No thinking required.

5:20 - 5:30 Stop by the Whale store and grab a Whale shirt and a cool retro Whalers shirt that is perfect to wear for your night out on Pratt St.

5:35 - 6:40 Downtown Yoga for the Hartford Bicycle show. Meet the artists. Take advantage of your loosened inhibitions to buy someones bike and order a custom paint job. Arrange for 10 PM pickup.

6:45 - 7:30 Stop by ATOM Space to check out the As It Ever Was exhibit. Observe and enjoy. Make small talk. Find a pretty girl with a good personality. Take her to The Tavern Downtown for a drink.

7:30 - 9:45 Enjoy the Whale game at The Tavern with your new friend. Indulge in the drink and food specials and root the Whale on to victory with other fans.

9:45 - 9:55 Exchange a somewhat awkward goodbye with your new friend. Get her number to make plans for Wednesday night. Punch her number into your phone and then call her so "she has yours." Hilarity will ensue if she gave you a fake number,

10:00 Return to the Hartford Bicycle Studio to pick up your new custom bike and wobble it home.

Who could really ask for more from a Friday?
