With its low self-esteem and high urban blight, Hartford is the ultimate underdog city. Sad City Hartford documents the joys, sorrows and eccentricities of New England's Rising Star.

Connecticut Connections

One of the things that we need to do collectively, both as a city and a state, is to stop getting so darn excited every time some sort national or international news story featured some sort of random connection to Connecticut. It just reeks of low self-esteem.

  1. Butbutbut... how about that 30 Rock "I Heart Connecticut" episode? Or that map of how NYC'ers see the US which had CT as "tennis courts"????

    C'mon, it's all we have!

  2. I agree with this over 9000%. I don't care that the third cousin to some foreign dignitary, domestic politician, celebrity, astronaut or Yo Yo Ma took a dump in... Bolton, or Orange or something and that has to be all over the 5:00, 6:00 and 11:00 news! It's just like that story NBC ran a couple of months ago (No offense Jerry) about them mentioning 'Hartford Hospital' in an Iphone ad. Who cares? Certainly not anyone else from any other state, so why do we care so much in this state?

  3. No need to apologize. I'm all in on this one. (Some things are beyond my control.)

  4. The "Connecticut Connections" have been a pet peeve of mine since I was old enough to notice them, right up the with "THE NEW DANGER THAT'S COMING TO PLAGUE CONNECTICUT'S CHILDREN!". I used to wonder who'd be interested in such nonsense, but they used to pique my grandmothers' interests so I guess that explains it. These days, I smirk at how tenuous the connections usually are.
