St. Patrick's Day is a Religious Holiday

Despite our jaded whining earlier this week about the St. Patrick's Day Parade, we fully admit that it's a great people watching opportunity.  Among the many human interest stories of the day, the First Baptist Bible Church of Plainville made an appearance at the event. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Church, they're the ones who typically show up at parks and sporting events to engage in "street preaching." (SIDE NOTE: One man's street preaching is another man's annoying and gross.) Nothing screams "salvation" quite like acrylic paintings of human torture.

We caught up with the Church for an exclusive video interview.

We get that people can be jerks to these guys. We also happily recognize that they are acting well within their first amendment rights. But do they have to be so annoying about it? The drunk people peeing all over the place might be gross, but if I had kids, I would be more bothered by this guy.

If you ask us, we'll take the Park Street variation of crazy street preaching.

  1. Heh
I totally walked up to this guy and said: "have fun being a virgin until you get married"
My friends pulled me away before he could answer.

    1. Wow, I'll bet you had to down a few brewski's to get up enough courage for that eh? What's wrong with what he's doing. The 1st Amendment isn't for all except Christians. When was the last time you looked at the crowd watching a football, basketball, baseball, hockey, or soccer game? See or hear anything unusual, like painted faces, or strangely colored hair, maybe cheese hats etc.? It's preserving those freedoms that make this country the greatest on the planet.

    2. Its like you read my mind! You appear to know so much about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you could do with some pics to drive the message home a little bit, but other than that, this is great blog. A great read. I will certainly be back.

  2. Anon on 3/15: I found him to be kind of a bummer at the event. He's by no means doing anything "wrong." It's just I find the entire "bloody sign and recruiting souls" bit to be a tad creepy. He's well within his First Amendment rights to do what he's doing just like I'm well within mine to make fun of him.
