Hot In Hartford: House vs. McEnroe
It's a tv vs. radio match in the final second round duel of Hot In Hartford 2012. Both Mr. House and Mr. McEnroe are fixtures on the Hartford scene. Mr. House is a 6pm and 11pm anchor on the Channel 3 evening news, hosts Face The State Sundays on 3 and blogs at The Hartfordite. Mr. McEnroe hosts The Colin McEnroe Show weekdays at 1pm on WNPR and also writes his own blog, the award winning To Wit. Three of the tickets to the final four have already been punched. Which one of these media stars will be joining the party?

Hartford Hockey On Face The State
![]() |
| Straight stolen from The Hartfordite |
At Sad City we are unabashed supporters of local hockey. Sad City holds season tickets to the CT Whale, and hope that one day in the not too distant future we will be holding season tickets to our new NHL team. You have to believe in something right?
Our friend Dennis House is also a big supporter of local hockey and often has hockey guests on his Sunday Face The State program. Last week long time hockey analyst John Buccigross visited Face The State to talk about hockey in Hartford. It's a must watch as Mr. Buccigross gives a journalist (for those that read too many blogs, that means unbiased) and legitimate opinion of Hartford's chances of getting a hockey team. The answers from Mr. Buccigross are both encouraging and discouraging, but always honest. It's an excellent interview by Mr. House, especially the second half, where his questions are absolutely spot on. The videos take too long to load but are worth the wait. Interview after the jump.

Hot In Hartford: Cotto vs. House
It's a good old Yankees vs. Red Sox battle in the final match of the first round as Councilman Cotto starts his defense of his Hot In Hartford title being pitted against Channel 3 news anchor and Face The State host Dennis House. No one can dispute that Mr. Cotto and Mr. House have become Hartford staples and credits to the city.
Councilman Cotto recently won his re-election bid for City Council as a member of the Working Families Party. An active Councilman and member of the community, Mr. Cotto is one of, if not the, most visible and outspoken Council members. Mr. Cotto is also a long standing friend to Sad City, and not only is he the defending Hot In Hartford champion, he has the unique distinction of being the only person interviewed twice by Sad City. Recently Councilman Cotto has been utilizing YouTube and uploading "Fireside Chats" to communicate with Hartford residents.

Hot In Hartford 2012
A New Year has arrived and that means it's time for those who made noise in 2011 to battle it out for the most prestigious of all local awards, Sad City's: Hot In Hartford! The first Hot In Hartford saw Councilman Luis Cotto score a surprising victory to take the coveted title. The Councilman recently defended his Council seat and will now try to defend his Hot In Hartford title as the 2012 pool is announced.

Face The State Looks at the XL Center Plan
![]() |
Last week, to much fanfare, Howard Baldwin unveiled his plan to upgrade the XL Center in downtown with the long term of attracting an NHL team. While we all love the idea of an NHL team coming back to Hartford, many question the viability of the plan. Even without an assurance of the NHL returning, Sad City supports the plan.
The XL Center is there, it is also old. As we see it there are three options: upgrade it, build a new stadium, or let it rot and die. Option three would leave Hartford without a downtown venue for events and a whole block in downtown empty and rotting. For us option three isn't an option. Here Sad City friend Dennis House interviews an economist that worked on the plan to upgrade the XL Center about the viability of the plan. Video analysis after the jump.

Face The State Flashback: The Hartford Rams

Face The State is an excellent local news program on Sundays at 11 AM on Channel 3. It is hosted by Sad City friend Dennis House. Heck, Hakaan even appeared on the show this summer. While Face The State is usually dedicated to current events, occasionally Dennis will use a segment to revisit a news topic of days past. A couple weeks ago he aired this great flashback (video after the jump) a news event that somehow, we at Sad City totally forgot about.

Remember This One?

We meet some new to the area that seem shocked we ever had an NHL team and express disbelief that the city could again support an NHL team, but it wasn't that long ago that the NFL was courting Hartford. And as Dennis points out in his story;

Dennis House Chats With Sad City
We first met Dennis House of Channel 3 when Hakaan appeared on his show Face The State in August. While chatting with Dennis after the show it started to really sink in, this guy is the real deal, a total Hartford guy. Dennis came to Hartford to work for Channel 3 in 1992 and since then has gone onto a successful news career, to get married and start a family and has lived in the city the entire time. In addition to his news work, Dennis also has a great blog The Hartfordite where he writes about current news, recollections of old news stories and his personal life. It's a definite must read especially for the historical stories. Did you know JFK was in CT during the Cuban Missile Crisis? We most certainly did not. Dennis was nice enough to take a few minutes and chat with us.
