Hot In Hartford: McEnroe vs. The Mayor

The voting continues with a battle between Colin McEnroe, last years runner up and recipient of The Howard Stern Award for furthest advancing radio personality and Mayor Pedro Segarra who dominated the Hartford Mayoral election on his way to winning his first full Mayoral term. Mr. McEnroe is well known for hosting The Colin McEnroe Show on WNPR. Mr. McEnroe also writes the "To Wit" blog, a two-time winner of the Advocate's Best Of in the blog category.

Hot In Hartford 2012

A New Year has arrived and that means it's time for those who made noise in 2011 to battle it out for the most prestigious of all local awards, Sad City's: Hot In Hartford! The first Hot In Hartford saw Councilman Luis Cotto score a surprising victory  to take the coveted title. The Councilman recently defended his Council seat and will now try to defend his Hot In Hartford title as the 2012 pool is announced.

Mattress Colonies: A Solution Coming?

Discarded mattresses are quite a scourge on our fine city and Sad City has been covering the mattress problem for well over a year. In fact the fifth ever Sad City post was about mattresses on the sidewalks. Well in yet another stunning coincidence of City action following Sad City observations, Mayor Segarra released a statement yesterday stating Hartford collects 18,000 mattresses a year and further discussing the mattress problem in Hartford. Segarra vs. Vargas: Let's Rumble!

The Hartford Mayoral race is down to three candidates; the incumbent Pedro Segarra, and challengers Edwin Vargas and J.Stan McCauley. The fourth challenger, Shawn Wooden, made a sudden turn and joined forces with the Mayor, his former opponent. As is often the case in professional wrestling and politics, the former challenger seems to have forgotten the insults hurled at his new tag team partner. But that's another topic for another time.

Hot In Hartford: Mayor Segarra v. Howard Baldwin

The final battle of the Hot In Hartford quarterfinals is a clash between two of the early round favorites as Howard Baldwin and the Mayor Pedro Segarra square off to see who will advance to the semi-finals. 

The Mayor defeated Al Terzi in the first round, but did not receive as many votes as some of the other favorites. He finds himself squaring off against hockey legend Howard Baldwin, who narrowly won a hard fought first round battle with Hartford Courant columnist Helen Ubinas. 

Hot In Hartford Quarterfinals

The Hot In Hartford contest moves onto the second round after a first round that saw strong contenders Helen Ubinas, Scott Haney and Chuckles go down in defeat. For the quarterfinals the contestants have been seeded one through eight based on the number of votes they received in the first round. Second round voting starts later this week.

Hot In Hartford: Segarra v. Terzi

The second match up of the first round of "Hot In Hartford" features legendary and ageless news anchor Al Terzi pitted against Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra.

While Terzi has been on the Hartford scene seemingly forever, the Mayor only recently become a higher profile figure when he ascended to the Mayor's Office after the Eddie Perez scandal.

Hartford Crime Rates Drop

Earlier this week Hartford Police Chief Daryl Roberts and Mayor Pedro Segarra announced a 6.9% decrease in "serious crime" from 2009 to 2010. Hilda Munoz of the Hartford Courant, informs us that "serious crime is defined as murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, and auto theft." All sound pretty serious to us. This is obviously a good thing right? Nobody could be upset about a drop in crime right?

Mayor Pedro Segarra Chats With Sad City Hartford

Pedro Segarra famously became Mayor of Hartford after the resignation of the disgraced Eddie Perez. Taking office in late June, (around the same time Sad City debuted) the former City Council President has been a visible presence and a breath of fresh air to local politics. The Mayor was recently kind enough to take some time and answer a few of Sad City's questions.

We like Mayor Pedro Segarra. So far he has been a visible figure and made strides in improving Hartford. More and more we are becoming convinced that the Mayor likes Sad City. Never mind that he started the Parks Week initiave. Sad City was hardly alone in recognizing that Hartford parks were a little messy.

Is Mayor Segarra a Sad City Fan?

Yesterday was a busy media day for new Mayor Pedro Segarra as he was followed by the Hartford Courant's Cityline who Twittered throughout the day as Segarra set forth some new initiatives. A couple of these initiatives are the kinds of small and cost effective measures that Sad City Hartford endorses. Mayor Segarra announced that steps will be taken to clean up the city's parks and clean up the Old North Cemetery. Both are great ideas and fully endorsed by Sad City Hartford.
