With its low self-esteem and high urban blight, Hartford is the ultimate underdog city. Sad City Hartford documents the joys, sorrows and eccentricities of New England's Rising Star.

Hot In Hartford: Jenna Carlesso vs. Johnny Spigot

After an absolutley epic battle between John Dankosky and Daniel Schwartz, we resume Hot In Hartford at the point where last year's semi-finalists again start their journeys towards a championship. While readers are well familiar with Hakaan's notoriously low quality photoshopping (Jumper's the go to for photoshop and editing video), this matchup is also notable for the kind of crappy quality photos of both contestants (sorry to both of you). Despite the quality of the photos, that doesn't diminish the quality of work each candidate brings to Hartford.

Ms. Carlesso works as a reporter for The Hartford Courant, covering Hartford's neighborhoods and City Hall and writes Hartford CityLine with Vanessa Del Torre. Jenna joined the Courant in 2009 and we have been enjoying her reporting ever since. In the wide open world of the internet where everyone has a blog and is writing for free, you've got to respect someone that got trained and is capable of doing it for a living.

Mr. Johnny Spigot is the legendary bartender at Hartford's legendary West End bar, The Spigot Cafe. Despite rooting for the Yankees, the 88 car, and regularly committing battery on Sad City members with "flying ninja coasters," we are happy to overlook these and nominate Johnny for the contest. Always quick with a quip, a great drink recommendation, and the abilityto remember customers, Johnny really makes The Spigot feel like the bar where everybody knows your name.

Who is Hot In Hartford?

  1. I like Jenna a ton, but Johnny's job is to provide me with drinks. And, you know, he's my husband.

  10. Johnny for sure...just don't try to play "who let the dogs out" when you go in there, it never ends well. I've learned that the hard way many times

  11. Johnny. I'm sure Jenna is a fine person with wonderful qualities, but having been there when Johnny first stumbled into the Spigot as a customer, and later encouraged him to spend more time there as a (re)new resident of the Nutmeg state, I can honestly say there are very few other people (now that Mom and my bro have moved south) that are on my "I need to see" list when I come home.
