A Good Graffiti Spoiled
In the urban setting graffiti could be compared to golf in the suburbs. Both always seems to be prevalent and no one really knows why, both are costly, both mar what would otherwise be nice landscape, and both usually consists of men trying to prove, well whatever it is men try to prove when they are trying to prove stuff.
Just how golf can sometimes be amusing (usually in the form of video games, close majors on Sunday, or a release Tiger Woods texts) graffiti can sometimes be cool to look at. This auto parts store off of Park St is a great illustration of cool graffiti.
It's kind of hard to figure out what is going on in this mural. We see the word AIDS, we see some different flags, and then we see some faces. Our best guess is the message is that AIDS affects everyone. Whatever it is, it is a cool piece of art.
What's really disheartening is that the crappy taggers wouldn't even stay away from this piece of art. Does it really serve any purpose whatsoever to paint your name or "Yankees" over a cool piece of graffiti? Seriously, that's about as stupid as it gets and the bar isn't exactly set all that high.
