With its low self-esteem and high urban blight, Hartford is the ultimate underdog city. Sad City Hartford documents the joys, sorrows and eccentricities of New England's Rising Star.
It does feel like a slow motion car crash. Everyone and their mother is saying that doesn't seem like a great idea, but they're going ahead with it because they have the federal funding. This is going to be one of those things where we look back 15 years ago and say, "God, how did we not know that they were stealing most of that money?"
If this was project to bring MetroNorth to Hartford, this would be a totally different story...
A cab ride from New Britain to Hartford would be about $30. For $275,000,000 we could just give the first ten million riders money for cab fare. For the total 500+ Million cost of the project and operations, you could pay for about 20 million cab rides. I know -- it reduces congestion, yadda yadda yadda. Sue me for looking at I-84 and thinking maybe that CT planners don't know what they're doing.
This busway project is like watching a political car accident in slow motion.
ReplyDeleteIt's unreal that this was even conceived, let alone actually coming to fruition. And from your wallet.
Perfect example of Democrats and unions at their best (or worst).

That's a great idea, MetroNorth to Hartford could actually make a real difference.
ReplyDeleteMakes no sense why we are forced to take Amtrak to New Haven. Oh wait it's government owned, never mind.
