Hartford Business: MC's Barbershop

For men getting a haircut can be a difficult hazard to navigate. For the vast majority of us it is totally unnecessary and wasteful to go to a salon and pay in excess of $30 to get a trim. On the other hand going to Supercuts and putting your appearance into the hands of a hungover 20-year old who is still fuming about the latest argument with her boyfriend isn't the best idea either.
The solution; MC's Barbershop on Franklin Ave.

MC's is a small one-man shop located all the way down Franklin Ave, almost in Wethersfield. Haircuts for men are only $13, take about 15 minutes and are always quality. MC seems to be getting more and more popular as there is often a wait of two or three people. If there is a wait MC (we actually have no idea if that is his name) will let you sign up on a wait list and come back.

If you decide to wait, there is an ample and diverse magazine supply and a flat screen tv that usually is showing soccer or the History Channel. While hanging out in MC's, you will really be able to see the Bosnian influx into the South End. MC himself is from Montenegro and many of his customers speak Bosnian.

There is one drawback to getting a haircut at MC's. Towards the end of the haircut, he spreads warm shaving cream from some sort of a machine and cleans up the ears and neck area with a straight razor. Now we don't care who, what, why or how, we are not comfortable with anyone having a straight razor to our head area while we lie prone in a chair. We have tried various strategies to avoid this; clean shaven, full beard, nothing seems to work. Every time MC uses the razor. At the very least we get our haircut and fill of excitement at the same stop.

Sorry to our many, many female readers, but MC appears to be a men's barbershop only and we have zero knowledge of female hair stylists in the area. Feel free to share any knowledge in the comments.

  1. Any men's barber that is worth his salt will use a straight razor to clean the neck and ears.

So few do this anymore; it's a lost civility.

Now I have another location for a haircut, Thanks!!

  2. Regarding the warm shaving creme and straight razor - have you never been to a barber shop before?

  11. Try "Professional Cuts" or something like that on the Corner of Gray and Sisson Avenue. They're anything BUT professional. They raise your hair line to an extreme and have the nerve to charge you $20...I gave the guy 14 and acted as though that's all I had, never again, and I live near that place on Sherman...AND I had to re-shapeup my shape up...Never again

  15. this shop is very far from professional. I went here about a month ago and everything was going good, he was talking to me being polite etc.. The only problem i was having in the beginning was understanding him talk. After about 5 minutes of cutting he manages to cut my earlobe which required 5 stitches. After that he still had the audacity to charge me $10 for the completely messed up haircut, which half of the hair was bigger than the other half.. I would not recommend going to this barber.
